The Devil tried to sabotage Durham Cathedral with a cursed stone. But flying over Castle Eden Dene, his apron snapped. The stone plummeted, and in a last desperate grab, he left claw marks and blood on the rock. That stone still lies there—The Devil’s Lapstone. The stone remains. So does the story.
